Correct Me If I'm Wrong is a book full of funny blooper headlines collected by the Columbia Journalism Review.
Just bought it, and wanted to share a few with you. FYI...you won't find the book on Amazon. Be sure to go the the Newseum Store . I get no commission for this plug :)
What is it about August? Is it the heat? Ah well...let's laugh it off together :) Once again, courtesy of The Columbia Journalism Review (you really should subscribe, great stuff).
Last week I told you about Canadian Musician Dave Carroll who tried to get United Airlines to compensate him for baggage handling damage to his $3,500 Taylor guitar. A year later, he gave up the effort and got creative. His YouTube video"United Breaks Guitars" has had more than a million hits. Now, you can read his side of the story here, and below, you can watch a video response by Dave, explaining that after the release of "United Breaks Guitars," United did contact him and offer compensation...which he's turned down. He's also worried about a United employee who he named in the video, and defends her professionalism...even if she didn't give him the compensation he wanted.
Guess what? Dave has written a part II video, which is in production now, and hopes to write a third version. What a study in consumer activism. If you were in United's PR department, what would you recommend? Duck and cover? Or something more creative?
Wondering why your boss freaked out when you suggested she/he should move the firm towards social media? Perhaps she/he has seen this. In PR? Prepare to wince. This four minute music video by Canadian Musician Dave Carroll easily produces lots of LOLs! Now,take your A.D.D. medication and see if you can make it through the whole thing :)
...And, be sure to read the story surrounding the video. It puts the situation in perspective and gives United Airlines credit for responding well. My apologies to United for continuing rip the scar off the wound. The video is really funny. I couldn't resist.
And once again, it is time for my latest installment of funny headlines, collected from readers and published in the Columbia Journalism Review (an excellent publication). Enjoy your weekend!
You get your own island, your own beautiful house, and a six figure income...and all you have to do is blog. Watch the video, see how they did it, see why their Web site crashed, and see why the job opening was covered by news media around the world.
Time to laugh a little, hopefully not too much at the expense of others. Once again, some gems...real headlines featured in the Columbia Journalism Review. Enjoy!
I maintain, we must laugh..a lot..because times aren't easy. Here's May's installment of funny headlines with much appreciation and due credit to theColumbia Journalism Review.
"Corey Menscher, a graduate student at New York University, developed the Kickbee, an elastic band with vibration sensors that his pregnant wife wore to alert Twitter each time the baby kicked: “I kicked Mommy at 08:52 PM on Fri, Jan 2!” Mr. Menscher is now considering selling the product."
A two minute V Cast documentary I can relate to: Social Media Burnout. Starts out quite serious (face and voice of addict disguised). It ends with...well, you need to watch it here. Focus, two minutes...focus.
Again, I bring up Steve Rubel's prediction of a coming "Attention Crash."
Angry at Wall Street?
Recently, I went on a "news fast" after watching the market free-fall. Instead, I indulged in a "fake news" binge, watching the Daily Show and Colbert Report every night.
Laugh until you cry (don't drip on your stock statements), by going here for Jon Stewart's (The Daily Show) magnificently, cleverly edited rave about Wall Street. You will need to commit some time for this, but it's worth it. Gather the family around for 21 minutes...incredible therapy. I watched it twice. I feel much better now : )
Once a broadcast journalist, I now work as a PR, media relations, social media advisor for my firm, Cartwright Communications. My profession grows more complex each day. This blog helps me cope :) Selected as one of the 101 Women Bloggers to Watch for 2009 by WE Magazine.
